Location and landscape
Hochdorf-Assenheim is a municipality in the Rhein-Pfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It covers 9.71 km² and lies in the Rhine plain between the Rhine and the Haardt. Hochdorf is located about one kilometre away and roughly five metres higher than the neighbouring Assenheim.
History
The municipality was formed in 1969 as part of the administrative reform from the previously independent municipalities of Hochdorf and Assenheim. Hochdorf is already mentioned in the 776 Lorscher Codex; for Assenheim there are records from the years 777 or 782 and from 800. An entry for Assenheim mentions an estate with vineyards, meadows, forests and waters.
Soils and viticulture
For a planning area in Hochdorf-Assenheim, loess soils with a high level of agricultural yield potential have been documented. The municipality belongs to the Pfalz winegrowing region. The wine-growing site Fuchsloch lies in the Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße area and within the Großlage Hofstück. It extends as a legally defined single vineyard (Einzellage) over Hochdorf-Assenheim and Rödersheim-Gronau; the Hochdorf section covered, in 2024, a vineyard area of 10.7 hectares.
Sauvignon Blanc from the Fuchsloch
For a documented dry Sauvignon Blanc as the Hochdorf-Assenheim anniversary wine, grapes exclusively from Hochdorf from the Fuchsloch site were used. The grapes were harvested on the night of 8 September 2025 at more than 100 degrees Oechsle. The wine was matured by the Weingut Dr. Josef Köhr in Ruppertsberg.
