Location and landscape
The Lohrberger Hang lies in the Frankfurt district of Seckbach and is part of the wine-growing region Rheingau. The vineyard site covers around 1.3 hectares and is Frankfurt’s only remaining vineyard. It is located on a sun-exposed southern slope of the Lohrberg, which rises to about 185 metres above sea level and has a steep south-facing slope. The soil developed from calcareous marl.
History and cultivation
Wine growing on the Lohrberg has been documented since the Middle Ages. The vineyard has been in the possession of the City of Frankfurt am Main since 1803 and has been farmed by a private tenant since 1994.
Grape variety and wine
Riesling is grown on the Lohrberger Hang. Each year, around 10,000 bottles of Riesling are filled from the grapes grown there. The documented wines are full-bodied and at the same time lively, with finely developed acidity.
