Erligheim

Location and landscape

Erligheim lies in the northern part of the district of Ludwigsburg on the southern edge of the Zabergäu in the Ensbach valley. The municipality is partly part of the Stromberg-Heuchelberg nature park and lies in the Neckar basin natural region. Its area extends from the Ensbach valley to the eastern foothills of the Stromberg, which are partly wooded and partly planted with vine shoots. The elevation ranges from 196.52 to 331.45 metres above sea level.

Winegrowing

Erligheim has been a winegrowing municipality for a long time, with around 45 hectares of vineyard area. The Lerchenberg is documented as a single-vineyard site (Einzellage) known as the Erligheimer Lerchenberg and is used to market the region’s leading red wine. Among other things, the site is associated with drier Lemberger and Lemberger Kabinett.

History and vinification

Erligheim was first mentioned in the year 793, when the place was transferred to Lorsch Abbey by a grant. The historic front press (Vordere Kelter) was built between 1772 and 1773 and was operated as a wine press until 1952.

Development

A documented Lemberger from the Erligheimer Lerchenberg, dating from 2016, was matured in barrique barrels.
