Location and landscape
Eichenbühl is a municipality in the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) and in the Miltenberg district. It lies about 5 km east of Miltenberg at the edge of the Bavarian Odenwald. The main settlement, as well as Pfohlbach and Riedern, is located in the Erftal valley; Heppdiel, Guggenberg and Windischbuchen lie on an elevated high plateau.
Natural fundamentals
The municipality belongs to the natural region of the Odenwald, Spessart and southern Rhön, specifically to the valley slopes of the Main and its tributary rivers. The subsoil consists of Bunter sandstone (Buntsandstein). From weathered sand and sand-gravel material, brown earth (Braunerde) and podsolic brown earth (podsolige Braunerde) have developed.
Viticulture
In the wine-growing region Franken, Eichenbühl is assigned to the Churfranken area. The registered vineyard site Hoher Berg belongs to Eichenbühl and is not assigned to any named large-scale site (Großlage). The name is recorded in the Bavarian vineyard register (Bayerische Weinbergsrolle) as a geographical designation for quality wines.
History
On the Eichenbühler Höhe near Ausspann, according to the municipality’s historical account, there was a settlement of the Linear Pottery (Linearbandkeramikkultur). It is dated to approximately the period 3500 to 3000 BC.
