Location and landscape
Dieblich lies on the right bank of the Moselle, about 13 kilometres upstream from its mouth in the Rhine, within the large Dieblicher Moselle bend. The settlement extends along the lower part of a slope; gentler slopes rise to an adjoining plateau. The climate is described as mild as well as generally warm and temperate. The municipality belongs to the wine-growing region Mosel and to the wine-growing area Burg Cochem.
Viticulture
The registered single vineyard Heilgraben lies upstream of Dieblich towards Niederfell. In the cadastre area of Dieblich it comprises 1.2 hectares of planted vineyard area and bears the official site number 440506. The site is assigned to the Moselle, the Burg Cochem area and the Großlage Weinhex.
In Dieblich, around two hectares of vineyard area were planted mainly with Riesling. A local wine-growing business gives a Riesling share of about 90 per cent for its vineyards; the remaining area is divided equally between Rivaner and Kerner. According to a description by one business, the steep vineyards show rock consisting of slate weathering.
Winemaking and development
A wine-growing business in Dieblich works with yield-reducing cultivation measures and integrated, environmentally oriented viticulture. For cellar work, gentle pressing and a very slow fermentation controlled by temperature are stated. In 2010, around 80 per cent of wine production consisted of white wine varieties.
Historically, Dieblich was documented in the year 922 under the name Duvericha. Around 1800 there were about 274,000 vine stocks there, producing mostly red wine; the current vineyard area is significantly smaller.
