Location and landscape
Bellheim is a municipality in the Germersheim district in Rhineland-Palatinate and lies in the southern Pfalz. The municipal area comprises 2,044 hectares. Bellheim is situated in the Upper Rhine Plain; the Queich runs through the surrounding landscape on its way to the Rhine.
Soils and climate
The region around Bellheim is considered climatically favourable and has low rainfall. Outside the Queich lowland, the soils are particularly fertile. In the Queich lowland, on the other hand, there are nutrient-poor sands that were eroded from the Palatinate Forest and deposited over millennia.
Viticulture
To the south of Bellheim and Knittelsheim lies the Gollenberg, an elevation with vineyards. The Gollenberg is a registered single vineyard within the Großlage Trappenberg in the winegrowing region of Südliche Weinstraße. The 2024 vineyard register states 5.5 hectares of planted vineyard area for the Bellheim plot. Bellheim also belongs to the municipalities for which the protected geographical indication “Pfälzer Landwein” is permitted.
History
Bellheim was first mentioned in documents in the Lorsch Codex on 12 June 774.
