Allensbach

Location

Allensbach is located in the Baden region on Lake Gnadensee, the western part of Lake Constance, on the edge of the Bodan ridge.

Wine-growing history

In the past, Allensbach was a wine-growing village with wine production beyond its own requirements. Later, parts of the vineyards were replaced by development; today, cultivation continues on a small scale, mainly for personal consumption.

Vineyard sites and grape varieties

The former vineyard sites were on sunny south-facing slopes at the edge of the Bodan ridge. A documented vineyard site is located at the Höhrenberg next to the church. In Allensbach, the grape varieties Spätburgunder and Müller-Thurgau are grown; this yields small quantities of red Spätburgunder and white Müller-Thurgau.

Historic emblem

The coat of arms of the Allensbach district of Kaltbrunn contains wine motifs, which the municipality describes as a symbol of the formerly very important wine-growing activity. The coat of arms has existed since 1904.
