Location and Classification
Kapelle is an officially registered single vineyard in Hainfeld in the wine-growing region Pfalz. It belongs to the Südliche Weinstraße district and the collective vineyard Ordensgut. The vineyard site extends southwest of Hainfeld and is characterised by gently to moderately sloping hillside conditions.
Soils and Climate
The soils of Kapelle consist of calcareous loess, which is predominantly made up of wind-deposited silt. They have a loose structure, a high humus content and a medium water-holding capacity. For the Pfalz wine-growing area, an average annual temperature of around 10 °C, an average temperature during the growing season of 14.7 °C, approximately 655 mm of annual precipitation and about 665,000 Wh/m² of direct sunlight during the growing season are stated.
Register and Grape Varieties
In the Rhineland-Palatinate wine-growing sites register, Kapelle is listed under number 810605. For the 2024 harvest year, 113.3 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded. Documented wines from the site are produced from Riesling, Merlot, Chardonnay, Spätburgunder and Saint Laurent.
Wine Style and Cellaring
The loess soils are associated with full-bodied, fruit-focused wines. Dry red wines and dry Chardonnay are documented. Individual wines from Kapelle mature for two years in barrique, in tonneau, or for twelve months in large wooden casks. For vineyards around Hainfeld, ecological cultivation is also described, along with the avoidance of synthetic sprays and fertilisers, cover-crop seed mixtures with legumes, hand work, gentle vine pruning and yield reduction.
