Location and classification
Wonneberg is a legally registered single-vineyard site in the wine-growing region Pfalz, in the wine-growing area Südliche Weinstraße and in the Großlage Guttenberg. The site extends across the cadastral areas of Bad Bergzabern and Dörrenbach in Germany.
Area and designation
The 2024 vineyard register lists 24.8 hectares of planted vineyard area in the cadastral area of Bad Bergzabern and 125.2 hectares in the cadastral area of Dörrenbach. Overall, Wonneberg thus covers 150.0 hectares. The official designation number is 810201.
Topography and climate
The vineyards in Dörrenbach are located as sun-rich slopes on the edge of the Haard. The hills of the Pfälzerwald provide protection from westerly weather conditions. The interaction of surrounding hills, slope sites and different soils is associated with a mild local microclimate.
Grape varieties and cultivation
In vineyards including Wonneberg, among others, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, Dornfelder, St. Laurent, Regent, Merlot and Zweigelt are grown. For the vineyards of the winery Rapp, after flowering, a reduction in the number of grapes and a moderate leaf pruning in the fruit zone are documented.
In April 2023, the legal boundary description of Wonneberg was changed. In doing so, parcels in the cadastral areas of Bad Bergzabern and Dörrenbach, which had previously been located in an earlier demarcation and within the protected wine-growing area Pfalz, were added to the site.
