Location and classification
Weißenberg is a single vineyard in Kobern-Gondorf, in the cadastral district of Kobern and in the wine-growing region Mosel. The vineyard lies north of Kobern; at its foot runs the Hohensteinsbach.
Slope and soils
The steep site has a slope of more than 60 per cent and faces south, with an exposure from southeast to south-southwest. Dark, skeletal slate soils warm up quickly; the lower terraces are deeper and more loamy. The orientation, the steep terrain and the rapidly warming soils shape the site conditions.
Vines and wines
About 95 per cent of the area is planted with Riesling; alongside this there is a small proportion of Spätburgunder. Spätlese wines from Weißenberg are documented; the wines from this site are described as elegant and finely fruity.
Area and cultivation
The 2024 vineyard directory lists Weißenberg under site number 440520 with 8.0 hectares of planted vineyard area. The site is cultivated largely continuously; only in the upper slope are there a few abandoned terraces. Because of fragmented ownership relationships and parcels, a reorganisation was required with the aim of providing better working conditions and larger cultivation units.
