Topography and climate
Venusbuckel lies on a gently curving hill with a southerly to south-westerly aspect. Warm days and cool nights are associated with a slow and even ripening of the grapes.
Soils
The soils consist of loess, clay and calcareous components. They are described as chalk- and nutrient-rich as well as well supplied with water, and support deep root development.
Grape varieties and wine style
Wines designated as Venusbuckel are documented, among others, with Riesling, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Spätburgunder. Wines from loess and clay soils are described as full-bodied and mineral, and are generally considered to pair well with food; in this context, Riesling is characterised as tending to be fuller and harmonious. A documented Venusbuckel Spätburgunder is a dry German Qualitätswein. For the 2020 vintage, fermentation took place in a stainless-steel tank and maturation took place in barrique.
