Topography and Soils

The single vineyard is described as a south-west-facing slope with sandstone terraces and limestone outcrops. Persistent light winds help to dry the grapes and reduce the risk of rot.

The Rieslings produced there are described as full-bodied, dry or off-dry, and in part with late-harvest ripeness and ageing potential. The Dürkheimer Spielberg “Schöne Anna” by Karl Schaefer is an off-dry Riesling as a late-harvest wine.

Name and Classification

The name Spielberg is associated with the assumption that a Roman signal tower might have been located at this site. According to the documentation by Karl Schaefer, Anna Bergner sold her vineyard in the Spielberg during her lifetime to the ancestors of the winery. For Karl Schaefer, the Dürkheimer Spielberg is listed with the VDP as VDP.ERSTE LAGE.
