Location and classification
Rosengärtchen is a single vineyard in Neumagen, a district of the municipality Neumagen-Dhron, in the Bernkastel area of the Mosel. The vineyard belongs to the Großlage Michelsberg and lies on the right bank of the Mosel between Trittenheim and Neumagen. It borders the vineyards Trittenheimer Apotheke and Neumagener Sonnenuhr.
Topography and soils
The site, which is orientated from the south-west to the west, has slope gradients of around 25 to 60 percent and extends up to an altitude of approximately 264 to 267 metres. The soils consist of stony, partly clayey slate weathering soils with grey and blue Devonian slate.
Grape varieties and wine style
Rosengärtchen covers around 26 hectares. Riesling is the most important documented grape variety; in addition, plantings of Weißburgunder and Spätburgunder are also documented. Rieslings from this site are associated with fine fruit, floral aromas, a delicate structure and a mineral character shaped by the slate soils.
Historical documentation
Rosengärtchen is listed on a historical winegrowing map of the Mosel for the administrative district of Trier from the year 1906.
