Topography and soils

The Oberemmeler Rosenberg is described as a steep hillside site facing south. It runs parallel to the Scharzhofberg site. The soils are characterised as warm slate; in the surrounding area of the Oberemmel vineyards, grey and reddish slate is also documented. Some Riesling parcels are planted with vines more than 30 years old.

Grape varieties and wine styles

With the Oberemmeler Rosenberg, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Dornfelder, Ortega and Rivaner are documented. The wines include dry and finely off-dry Riesling, Riesling Auslese, dry Spätburgunder and Dornfelder from the barrique, semi-dry Ortega Auslese as well as a dry Rivaner.

Historical and cellar-related reference

The Oberemmeler Rosenberg is shown on a historical map of Mosel winegrowing from 1906. For Spätburgunder, the best grapes from the Rosenberg are gently pressed and made into white wine, so that a white wine is produced from red grapes.
