Rittergarten

Location and Size

The Rittergarten is a vineyard site in Bad Dürkheim. It lies directly opposite the Dürkheimer Giant Cask and borders the Fitz-Ritter winery. The vineyard area covers around 12.9 hectares. The name was given by the Fitz-Ritter family; the site is listed in the Rhineland-Palatinate wine sites register for Bad Dürkheim with the status of the 2024 harvest.

Soils and Sub-Parcels

The site consists of two separate parcels with different local conditions. In the north-eastern parcel, there are loamy alluvial soils and sand; it lies in a cool hollow and is comparatively well drained. The south-western parcel has a higher proportion of sand, warms up more quickly as a result, and is well supplied with water from springs.

Riesling and Wine Styles

Riesling is documented from the Rittergarten. The north-eastern parcel is particularly associated with fresh, light and acidity-emphasising Rieslings with nutty notes in hot, dry summers. The south-western parcel produces fuller wines with lower perceived acidity. Both dry and sweet Riesling styles are documented, including an aromatic, full-bodied and sweet Riesling balanced by fresh acidity.

Viticulture

Organic winegrowing is documented for the house wine site of the Fitz-Ritter winery, designated as Dürkheimer Rittergarten.
