Rheingarten

Location and landscape

The Hattenheimer Rheingarten lies on the Mariannenaue, a Rhine island opposite Hattenheim and Erbach, both of which are districts of Eltville am Rhein in the Rheingau. The location forms part of a floodplain landscape shaped by the river.

Soils and history

The soils are described as floodplain soils with sandy loam. On the Mariannenaue, winegrowing has been carried out since the Middle Ages. The name Rheingarten refers to the earlier cultivation of vegetables and fruit before and during the world wars.

Grape varieties and wine style

For the Hattenheimer Rheingarten and the Erbacher Rheinhell on the Mariannenaue, historical grape varieties are documented, including Chardonnay. On the island, there are also plantings of Weißburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc and Roter Riesling. The wines are described as having pronounced fruit, fresh acidity and a diverse range of aromas.

Single-vineyard (Einzellage)

Hattenheimer Rheingarten is officially listed as a Rheingau single-vineyard within the Großlage Deutelsberg. The official register entry assigns the location name Hattenheim and notes an associated section in the Erbach cadastral area (Gemarkung Erbach).
