Location and context
Raul is an officially registered single-vineyard site in the municipality of Konz, in the cadastral district of Oberemmel. It belongs to the wine-growing region Mosel, to the Saar area, and to the Großlage Scharzberg.
Area and topography
The officially recorded vineyard area covers 2.2 hectares. Raul comprises the parcels Raul and Im Raul and lies on the far western edge of a south-facing slope. The official wine site register code is 460236.
Wines
For wines with the designation Oberemmeler Raul, Riesling has been documented, including at Weingut Alois Kirchen and Weingut von Hövel. Spätlesen and Auslesen are evidenced in dry, delicately off-dry, fruity-sweet and noble-sweet expressions.
Historical and legal classification
Oberemmeler Raul was documented in the wine tax and auction history of the 19th century as a Saar site highly rated. The site is listed in the official wine site register of Rhineland-Palatinate as a single-vineyard site for the geographical wine designation in the Mosel wine-growing region. In the 2024 catalogue, the VDP classified Oberemmeler Raul as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
