For wines with the designation Wittlicher Portnersberg, Riesling and Blauer Spätburgunder are documented. The Rieslings include Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese wines in the styles dry, off-dry and sweet. Spätburgunder is offered as a dry red wine and a dry rosé.
History and winegrowing
A Wittlicher Portnersberg Auslese from the 1921 vintage was auctioned in Trier in 1922 for 189,000 Reichsmark. Portnersberg is listed in the official wine site directory of Rhineland-Palatinate under Wittlich for the 2024 harvest vintage.
The documented work in the vineyard holdings includes canopy work in summer, thinning in August, repeated selection before the harvest and selective hand-harvesting. In addition, own organic compost, the omission of insecticides and an early pruning that reduces yield are also mentioned.
