Location and geography
The Pfarrwingert is a named vineyard site in Schweigen-Rechtenbach in the wine-growing region Pfalz. The site extends between the Rechtenbach church and the edge of the forest.
Topography and soils
The Pfarrwingert faces south-east, lies at an altitude of 230 to 260 metres and has a slope gradient of 25 per cent. From the edge of the Palatinate Forest, the land falls gently to the east. As geological foundations, limestone rock with a weathering layer of Buntsandstein as well as dolomite and Muschelkalk marl are documented.
Vineyard areas and wines
The site covers a little more than nine hectares. Documented grape varieties and wines include Riesling, Grauburgunder, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder and Chardonnay. Rieslings from the Pfarrwingert are described as fine-fruited and mineral; dry Weißburgunder and Chardonnay wines show chalky or mineral characteristics.
Classification and vinification
The VDP lists the Rechtenbach Pfarrwingert as VDP.Erste Lage in the Pfalz. For Weißburgunder and Chardonnay, a selective hand harvest of the best grapes, gentle processing, maturation in barriques and casks, as well as a documented waiver of fining are specified.
