Nenniger Schloßberg

Location and Classification

The Nenniger Schloßberg is an officially designated wine-growing site in Nennig, a district of the municipality of Perl in Saarland on the Upper Moselle. The single vineyard falls under the German winegrowing region Mosel, the Moseltor area and the Großlage Schloss Bübingen. As of 31 July 2024, the vineyard area was stated as 10.48 hectares.

Climate and Subsoil

The Moseltor wine-growing area with the Nenniger Schloßberg lies at an altitude of 200 to 230 metres. The data include an average annual temperature of 10 to 10.5 °C, around 750 millimetres of annual rainfall, about 70 frost days, and a growing season of more than 174 days. The vineyards are on the sunny slopes around Schloss Berg. As the prevailing subsoil, shell limestone has been documented.

Farming and Grape Varieties

For the vineyards, low vine pruning, green shoots of vines, as well as natural, site-specific care of the soil and canopy are described. In addition, predominantly manual work is documented without chemical pest control or herbicides. The grape varieties grown include Grauburgunder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, St. Laurent and Spätburgunder. St. Laurent and Spätburgunder were replanted in 1980 after a 70-year interruption of red wine production.

Documented Wine Styles

A Chardonnay from the Nenniger Schloßberg is developed as a dry single-site wine and is matured for nine months in barrique. A Gewürztraminer from the site is documented as a sweet wine with restrained acidity.
