Location and Topography
Münzberg is a vineyard site in Godramstein, a district of Landau in the Pfalz. The site lies on a gently south-facing slope at an altitude of 194 to 225 metres, with a gradient of 10 to 20 per cent. For the delimited site, a favourable local microclimate is described.
Soils and Parcel Schlangenpfiff
The soils of Münzberg are shaped by Keuper and contain proportions of Muschelkalk, clay, sand and loam. At the core of the site lies the parcel Schlangenpfiff, which the winery designates as its best parcels. For this parcel, lime and calcareous marl with a high proportion of clay are also documented.
Grape Varieties and Wines
As classified grape varieties in the VDP.GROSSE LAGE® are listed Weißer Burgunder and Spätburgunder. From Münzberg Schlangenpfiff, VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS wines are produced from these two grape varieties. The winery’s vineyards are farmed organically.
Vinification and Designation
For the Weißburgunder GG from the 2023 vintage, hand-harvesting, grape selection, gentle processing, temperature-controlled fermentation and ten months’ ageing on full lees in large wooden casks are documented. The name Münzberg is traced back to coin finds from Roman times. The site is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®; the wines are marketed as German wine with the protected designation of origin Pfalz.
