Relief and soils
Marienberg is a steep-slope vineyard site with a documented gradient of more than 60 percent. Flatter sections have been laid out as accessible cross terraces. Above the weathering slate with sandstone and quartzite inclusions there is a loess cover layer, which stores rainfall in the soil and can help the vines to survive dry periods.
Viticulture and history
On the upper slope there is the traditional single-post training system. Extensive old dry-stone walls, including arched wall structures, shape the site. A historical rock cellar is documented in connection with wine production on the Koblenz Marienberg. The name Marienberg refers to the former Cistercian abbey of Marienstatt, which held historical tithing rights associated with the site.
Grape varieties and wine styles
For the Koblenz Marienberg, Riesling and Pinot Blanc are documented. Documented wines include a dry Riesling Kabinett, a semi-dry Riesling Qualitätswein and a Beerenauslese.
