Kreuzwingert

Location and Geography

The Kreuzwingert is a vineyard site in Piesport in the Bernkastel area on the Mosel. The south-facing site lies at around 150 to 200 metres above sea level and has a slope gradient of 50 to 60 percent.

Soil and Ownership

The deep-rooting soil consists of Devonian slate with a high proportion of clay. The classified vineyard area is 0,09 hectares; the Haart winery states the parcel size as 0,098 hectares. The Kreuzwingert is in the sole ownership of the Haart winery.

Grape Variety and Wine Style

Riesling is classified as the grape variety for the site. The Kreuzwingert is documented for Rieslings as a VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS; a wine from the Haart winery is listed as a dry Riesling. The winery describes the wines with stone fruit, herbal and slate mineral notes, as well as pronounced acidity.

History and Maturation

The Kreuzwingert belonged to the Prussian classification of vineyards from 1868 among the highly classified Mosel sites. The name is associated with a Way of the Cross that led to the former Piesport church. A preserved station is said to have been donated in 1667 by an ancestor of the Haart family. The 2016 vintage of the Haart Kreuzwingert VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS was fermented in used tonneau casks and matured in them for two years.
