Königsfels

Location and classification

Königsfels is an officially registered single vineyard in the Mosel wine-growing region. It is associated with Güls and producers refer to it as Gülser Königsfels in Koblenz-Güls. The vineyard lies on the hillside between Güls and Winningen, bordering the Winninger Röttgen.

Topography and soils

Königsfels is described by a local producer as the flattest of his wine sites and is predominantly oriented to the south-west. The soils include deep loam and pumice as well as lighter sand and gravel.

Grape varieties and wine styles

In Gülser Königsfels, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay, Regent and Auxerrois are documented. For the site, Gewürztraminer, Weißburgunder, Riesling and Spätburgunder are also evidenced. Among other things, this results in dry Riesling, medium-dry Weißburgunder, dry Spätburgunder Blanc de Noir as well as Kabinett and Qualitäts wines.

Cultivation and history

For wines from the vineyard, selective hand-harvesting and reduced yields are specified; the vineyards in Güls are cultivated by hand from the vine to the harvest. Gülser Königsfels is one of the vineyard names listed in a study of the historical wine-growing landscape along the Mosel and is entered in the 2024 vineyard directory as a single vineyard.
