Location and classification

Kastaniengarten is an officially registered single vineyard site within the municipal and cadastral district of Edenkoben. It belongs to the Großlage Schloß Ludwigshöhe in the area of Southern Wine Route (Südliche Weinstraße) of the wine-growing region Pfalz.

Area and soil

In the 2024 harvest area list, Kastaniengarten is recorded as having 18.0 hectares of planted vineyard area. The soil is described as sandy loam.

Grape varieties and name history

For the site, Riesling, Burgundian varieties, Spätburgunder, Muscatel, Gewürztraminer and Dornfelder are listed. When establishing vineyards, the grape varieties are selected according to the respective soil type. The name Kastaniengarten refers to sweet chestnut trees (Edelkastanien) that used to grow at the site.
