Location and classification
Kapellenberg is a registered single vineyard site in the wine-growing district Laumersheim in the wine-growing region Pfalz. In the official vineyard register, it is listed under vineyard site number 821723. The vineyard area under cultivation is 47.5 hectares according to the 2024 harvest records; as VDP.ERSTE LAGE, a classified area of 47.00 hectares is shown.
Topography and soils
The site faces south, lies at about 120 to 130 metres above sea level and has a slope of 5 to 10 percent. The soils consist of quartz sands and gravel. A technical data sheet describes the material predominantly as sand and gravelly deposits from the Rhine, which formed over geological periods.
Grape varieties and wines
The classified grape varieties listed are Riesling, Spätburgunder and Chardonnay. For Kapellenberg, dry Rieslings of the VDP.ERSTE LAGE classification are documented. The wines from the light vineyard site on sand and gravel, which warms up quickly, are described as fresh and dry. One parcel is planted with old vines dating from 1956; as producers at Kapellenberg, the VDP names Philipp Kuhn and Knipser.
