Location and classification
The Hütte is an officially registered single vineyard in the Oberemmeler cadastral district of the municipality Konz in the Saar region of the Mosel. The vineyard site lies above the Langwiesebach and is entered under vineyard register number 460234. In the official vineyard register, it belongs to the Großlage Scharzberg; the VDP also lists Hütte as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.
Topography and soil
The site, which is oriented south-southeast to south, is located at around 280 metres above sea level. Its slope gradient is 30 to 75 percent. The elevated, comparatively unprotected location is exposed to the wind. The soils consist of stony, gravelly and strongly weathered Devonian slate.
Cultivation and grape variety
The classified area comprises 4.68 hectares. The estate describes Hütte as a monopoly and cites vines that are approximately 40 to 60 years old, as well as sustainable cultivation. In the VDP site profile, Riesling is listed as the grape variety; Riesling Kabinett, Riesling Spätlese and Riesling Auslese are documented.
Historical reference
According to the estate’s historical report, Emmerich Grach acquired the former St.-Maximin monastery vineyard in Oberemmel in 1803. During his visit to Trier in 1804, Napoleon was served Riesling from Hütte.
