Location and Key Figures
Horn is a single vineyard site in the cadastral district and in the municipality of Wachenheim. The official vineyard register 2024 lists the vineyard site under code 730309 and shows 58.2 hectares of planted vineyard area.
Topography and Soils
The site lies at an altitude of approximately 170 to 225 metres and is oriented from the north-west to the north-east. The documented soil type is loess-pararendzina, a calcareous wind-borne soil deposited during the Ice Ages. The deep, fertile loam with its clayey silty component provides good water retention that is available to plants, sufficient aeration and good rooting conditions.
Wine Character
The profile links Horn with aromas of yellow fruit as well as apple, peach, pear and citrus fruits. The wines are described as comparatively light and refreshing, with moderate acidity and early readiness to drink.
Historical Designation
The name of the vineyard site is attested in 1733, beneath Horn. The designation is explained by protruding corners of a plateau.
