Location and classification
Himmelreich is an officially registered single-vineyard site in the municipal and cadastral district of Sankt Aldegund in the Mosel wine-growing region Mosel, Bereich Burg Cochem. The vineyard register number is 440231, and the officially recorded vineyard area comprises 2.8 hectares.
Topography and soil
The site lies north of the town, opposite the Sankt Aldegund lock. It is described as a steep, terraced and south-east-facing vineyard site. Blue slate is documented as the characteristic rock or soil material.
Varieties and wine profiles
Riesling is one of the most important grape varieties of the site. Also documented are Spätburgunder, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Riesling vines are described as being own-rooted, around 80 years old on average, and traditionally trained on an individual stake; they produce low yields.
Documented wines
Origin-driven Rieslings from Himmelreich are documented as dry and off-dry Kabinett wines. They are described as having a comparatively light alcohol content, pronounced acidity, slate-driven minerality and concentrated aroma. A Spätburgunder from the site is described as aromatic and deep-rooted, with moderate alcohol.
