Herrenwingert

Location and Size

The Herrenwingert is a legally registered single vineyard site in the district of Rechtenbach of Schweigen-Rechtenbach in the Palatinate. The Vineyard Register 2024 lists 21.2 hectares of planted vineyard area for this site.

Topography and Soils

The site faces south and lies at an altitude of 230 to 240 metres with a slope gradient of 10 to 25 percent. A local description additionally names an orientation to the south and west as well as a bowl-shaped landscape form with a pronounced, site-specific climate.

As the geological basis, limestone is stated. Descriptions also mention calcareous tertiary clay, a heavy soil structure, limestone inclusions and limestone in parts of the site.

Grape Varieties and Wines

The VDP lists Pinot Noir as the classified grape variety of the Rechtenbach Herrenwingert. From this site, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are also documented; the described wines are vinified to be dry.

The Herrenwingert is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE. The VDP profile indicates a classified area of 22.00 hectares. A documented Herrenwingert Pinot Noir by Friedrich Becker was produced from hand-harvested grapes, traditionally fermented on the skins and aged for about 18 to 20 months in German and French barriques.
