Location and categorisation
Herrenberg is an officially registered single vineyard within the locality and in the cadastral area of Kleinkarlbach in the wine-growing region Pfalz. It belongs to the Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße wine-growing area and to the Großlage Höllenpfad.
Area and topography
The 2024 vineyard register lists Herrenberg under number 820411 with 21.5 hectares of planted vineyard area. The site is described as a slope fully oriented to the south. The key soil components mentioned are clay and limestone.
Grape varieties and vinification
Riesling and Spätburgunder are documented for Herrenberg. Recorded wines include a dry Riesling and a dry Spätburgunder. For a Spätburgunder, selective harvesting, traditional fermentation on the skins and predominantly ageing in wooden casks are specified. A Spätburgunder site belonging to the Hammel winery was planted more than 30 years ago.
Designation
Under German wine law, for quality wine and thus for the associated protected categories, the name of the municipality or the local district must be used together with the single-vineyard designation.
