Location and classification
Heiligenberg is a legally registered single vineyard within the Großlage Mandelhöhe. The vineyard is located in the municipality and in the winegrowing region Maikammer in Pfalz. In the 2024 vineyard register, 135.8 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded.
Topography and soils
The gently sloping site south of Maikammer falls towards the German Wine Route. The vineyards of Maikammer, including Heiligenberg, lie in the climatic protection of the Kalmit and feature strong sunlight exposure. The soils are described as heavy to sandy loams.
Grape varieties and wine styles
For Maikammer Heiligenberg, Riesling, Chardonnay and Merlot are documented as cultivated or suitable grape varieties. Site wines are also available from Riesling, Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder, Sankt Laurent and Auxerrois. Evidence is available for dry Riesling, Riesling Auslese, dry Weißburgunder Spätlese and dry Spätburgunder. A Riesling Auslese from the 2019 vintage showed 8.5 per cent alcohol, 7.5 grams of acid per litre and 105.8 grams of residual sugar per litre.
Cultivation and link to winegrowing
For vineyards at Heiligenberg, soil cultivation with cover crops, targeted yield reduction and hand harvesting are documented. A documented Spätburgunder was fully matured in barrique, with 30 to 40 per cent in new barrels, and bottled dry. A vineyard mark associated with the site belongs to the Dengler-Seyler winery and is used for wine tastings.
