Location and Classification
Gottesacker is a single vineyard site in the municipality of Walluf in the Rheingau region of Hesse. The Hessian classification of wine-growing sites assigns the site of the Großlage Steinmächer and the Rheingau wine-growing area. The municipality of Walluf describes Gottesacker as a vineyard site covering 4.5 hectares; in the single-vineyard directory of 2004, 12 hectares are given.
Name and Soils
The name Gottesacker is associated with the cemetery of the former Rode monastery and the settlement of Rode. Another possible origin is considered to be a church foundation. The soils consist of deep, loess-like loams and loess. The water supply of the site is described as very good, or even ideal.
Wine Character
The wines are described as full-bodied or voluminous, with pronounced to core-like or crisp acidity. In dry years, they reach full ripeness and can appear closed off in their youth. They are also credited with the ability for longer maturation in the bottle.
