Location and size
The Goldwingert is a vineyard site in Ürzig on the Mosel. The area covers less than 0.3 hectares. The site begins at around 110 metres above sea level and has an elevation difference of roughly 40 metres between its lower and upper ends.
Aspect and soil
The vineyard is oriented directly to the south and is bordered on three sides by rock faces. The reported microclimate is influenced by the south-facing aspect, the surrounding rock faces, and the proximity to the water surface of the Mosel. The soil consists of deep, grey-red, stony-rich slate. The red colouring is attributed to oxidised iron compounds; the material is referred to as Rotliegendes.
Vines and wine styles
The site is planted with own-rooted Riesling vines. Documented Goldwingert wines include Riesling Qualitätswein in a delicately off-dry style, Riesling Grosses Gewächs in a dry style, as well as Riesling Auslese in dry and dry-and-fruity-sweet styles. A documented bottling bears the designation Qualitätswein (QBA).
Ownership history
The vineyard has been in the ownership of the Berres family for several generations. Through the marriage of Helga Berres and the associated transfer of the former holdings of the Peter Nicolay winery, the site was linked to Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler.
