Location and classification
Goldschatz is an officially registered single vineyard in the Andeler cadastral district of Bernkastel-Kues in the Mosel wine-growing region and in the Bernkastel area. On site, the site is also referred to as Andeler Goldschatz. In the official vineyard register, it is listed under number 410347 and is assigned to the larger area Kurfürstlay.
Area and viticulture
The vineyard register of Rhineland-Palatinate lists a planted vineyard area of 5.8 hectares for Goldschatz. For the vineyards, including the Andeler Goldschatz, classic slate soils, natural ground cover and nature-oriented farming are described. Cold nights and warm summer days influence the ripening of the grapes and the aromas that develop.
Grape varieties and wine styles
Documented bottlings under the name Andeler Goldschatz include Riesling and Kerner. A 2016 vintage is documented as a dry Riesling Spätlese, and a 2017 vintage as a Kerner Kabinett.
Name history
The name Andeler Goldschatz is a reminder of historical gold finds in the Goldbach and in the surrounding area of Andel.
