Location and classification
Glockenzehnt is a legally registered single vineyard in the district of Mußbach of Neustadt an der Weinstraße in the Pfalz. In the vineyard directory, a total of 26.2 hectares planted with vines were recorded for the 2024 harvest year. The site belongs to the Qualitätsweinbaugebiet Pfalz, the Mittelhaardt–Deutsche Weinstraße winegrowing region and the Großlage Gimmeldinger Meerspinne.
Soils and grape varieties
For a documented producer parcel in Mußbacher Glockenzehnt, a heavy loess clay soil with a low lime content is described. From the site, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Chardonnay and Grauburgunder are documented, among others; in addition, Dornfelder and Blaufränkisch are listed under the site name.
Wine styles
Documented are dry Riesling, dry Chardonnay and dry Spätburgunder. A sweet Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is also documented.
Cultivation and vinification
A Riesling from the 2023 vintage from a producer parcel was hand-harvested and produced from biologically certified cultivation. For a 2023 Trockenbeerenauslese from the site, hand-picked grapes affected by botrytis are specified. A field trial in Mußbacher Glockenzehnt investigated nitrogen fertilisation in comparison with a permanently grassed area. The documented Riesling was allowed to sit on the skins (maceration) for four hours, vinified cool, aged for five months on the full lees, and bottled after filtration once. A Chardonnay from Mußbacher Glockenzehnt matured for two years in wood and was classified as a dry German Qualitätswein.
