Location and Classification
Gerümpel is an officially recorded single vineyard site in the Pfalz, in the Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße area and within the Großlage Hofstück. It is located in the municipality and cadastral district of Friedelsheim.
Area and Site
In the official vineyards register for 2024, Gerümpel is listed under wine site number 820504 with 56.0 hectares of planted vineyard area. The plots are described as being oriented from south to southeast and lie at a slope of 5 to 20 percent at an altitude of around 115 to 125 metres.
Climate and Soils
The wine-growing area near Friedelsheim is considered to be protected from strong winds and particularly mild. The soils consist of crumbly, loamy sandstone weathering material, which is interspersed with calcareous marl.
Grape Varieties and Name History
In the Gerümpel plots, Muscatel, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer are documented. The name is locally associated with the family name Grümbel. A further explanation relates to the transfer of the Wachenheimer plot Im Gerümbel to Grymbel from Bechtolsheim in 1499, after which the name could have reached Friedelsheim.
