Geißkopf in the Palatinate
Geißkopf is an officially registered single vineyard site in the wine-growing region Pfalz, in the area of Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße and within the larger site of Schwarzerde. The 2024 vineyard directory lists the site under vineyard site number 821715, with 74.0 hectares under vine.
Site and soils
The registered wine-growing municipality and the cadastral district are Kirchheim an der Weinstraße and Kirchheim. For parcels of Geißkopf, deep loess-clay soils with sand inclusions are described. According to a local producer, the vineyards in Kirchheim, including Geißkopf, benefit from protection provided by Haardt and Pfälzerwald and receive around 2,000 hours of sunshine per year.
Grape varieties and wines
For Geißkopf, White Burgundy (Weißburgunder), Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) and Auxerrois are documented. The wines are described as fine-fruited, with a fine, mature acidity structure. Dry Grauburgunder as a quality wine from the Palatinate is also evidenced, as are dry Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and dry Chardonnay from the Kirchheimer Geißkopf as quality wines b.A.
