Location and Geology
Feuermännchen is a legally defined single vineyard site in Neuleiningen in the Palatinate. The site covers 46.4 hectares and belongs to the Großlage Höllenpfad. The parcels described are located on the sheltered lower slope of Neuleiningen. Their soils consist of limestone marl, loess and sandstone.
Vines and Wine Style
In the Feuermännchen parcels, Riesling, Weissburgunder, Grauburgunder, Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer are documented. According to information from the local producer, the Riesling plantings range from a vineyard established in 1958 up to a site planted in 2024; in addition, there are vines that are older than 60 years.
The wines from Feuermännchen develop, according to the producer, early ripeness, a distinct character shaped by the soil, as well as power and structure. Riesling is described as fresh, elegant, dry, as Reserve and from reductive vinification. Part of it matures in wood.
