Location and Classification
Felsenkopf is a single vineyard site in Trittenheim on the Mosel. It belongs to the Bernkastel area and to the Großlage Michelsberg. The vineyard lies below the Laurentius Chapel in the direction of Leiwen and is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®.
Topography and Soils
Felsenkopf is oriented to the west to the south-west. The slope gradient is about 25 to 60 percent, and the elevation is around 120 to 180 metres above sea level. The soils consist of stony, weathered slate.
Cultivation and Wines
The site is documented as being the sole property of the winery Josef Milz. As the only grape variety cultivated there, Riesling is recorded. Documented bottlings range from Riesling Kabinett and Spätlese via dry and delicately fruity Spätlesen to Auslese, Auslese Goldkapsel and Beerenauslese.
Historical Evidence
Felsenkopf is shown on a historical Mosel wine-growing map dating from the year 1906. In auction catalogues from the 1920s and 1930s, the significance of the Trittenheim Felsenkopf is documented.
