Location and Classification
Falkenberg is a legally registered single-vineyard site in the protected Mosel wine-growing region, in the area of Bernkastel and within the Großlage Michelsberg. The site is linked with Piesport; according to the 2024 vineyard sites register, its areas are located in the cadastral districts of Piesport and Niederemmel, and to a small extent in Dhron within Neumagen-Dhron.
Areas and Delimitation
The 2024 vineyard sites register lists around 24.8 hectares of Falkenberg in the cadastral district of Piesport, 4.1 hectares in Niederemmel and less than one hectare in Dhron. The municipality of Piesport states an approximate total area of 30.6 hectares for the Piesporter Falkenberg. Parts of the site historically lay in the cadastral district of Dhron, but were marketed under the local name Piesport. In 2026, a boundary adjustment was completed in order to align land and origin designations legally.
Relief, Aspect and Bedrock
The Piesporter Falkenberg is described as a steep, elevated, and stony south-facing slope below the edge of the forest. The southern aspect increases exposure to sunshine, while slate stores the day’s warmth. The forest lying above the vineyards provides frost protection and contributes to water retention. A wine marketed as Piesporter Falkenberg indicates blue slate as a geological feature.
Grape Varieties and Wine Styles
For the Piesporter Falkenberg, Riesling and Spätburgunder are documented. The recorded wine styles include dry Riesling, delicately sweet or semi-dry Riesling, as well as dry Spätburgunder.
