Burgberg

Location and classification

The Trier Burgberg is located in Trier-Olewig in the MoselTrier lists it as a vineyard site from Olewig. It is situated in the vineyards around the Petrisberg and is assigned to the collective vineyard area Trierer Römerlay.

Topography and soil

A documented plot is oriented towards the south-west and lies at around 160 to 259 metres above sea level. The recorded slope gradient is between 1 and 31 percent. The subsoil consists of slate with areas traversed by clay.

Grape varieties and wine styles

At the Trier Burgberg, Spätburgunder and Blauer Spätburgunder are grown on an area of around one hectare. For the site, wines from Riesling, Weißer Burgunder, Auxerrois and Gewürztraminer are also documented. The wines appear dry, off-dry and medium-dry, as well as Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, Beerenauslese and Hochgewächs.

Historical and legal classification

The Trier Burgberg is shown on the historical Mosel wine-growing map for the Regierungsbezirk Trier from 1906. In the official vineyard sites list for Rhineland-Palatinate of 2024, Burgberg is assigned to the vineyard sites of Trier.
