Bergel is a registered single vineyard in Grünstadt in the wine-growing region Pfalz. The site belongs to the Großlage Höllenpfad in the area of Mittelhaardt/Deutsche Weinstraße.

Viticultural details

The single vineyard is listed in the Rhineland-Palatinate register of wine-growing sites as an approved geographical designation for wine. Its vineyard site number is 820402; according to the 2024 harvest area register, the planted area amounted to 6.3 hectares.

Natural surroundings

Bergel lies in the vineyard landscape of the Grünstadter Berg in the natural region of Göllheimer Hügelland. The Grünstadter Berg is traversed by the wine hiking trail Höllenpfad, to which the single vineyards Bergel belongs. The surrounding area is considered unusually warm and dry for Central Europe; in some areas, the annual precipitation lies below 500 millimetres, while the average annual temperature is about 9 °C. The subsoil consists of rugged Tertiary limestone in connection with the Mainz Basin; in the surrounding area, shallow, stony and permeable soils occur.
