The slope ranges from 15 to 50 per cent. Documented are loess clay and sandy loam with interspersed slate deposits, as well as slate-quartzite soils with loess clay and rocky outcrops.

History and landscape

The first vineyards were laid out around 1200 and were initially farmed in numerous small terraces. Historic terraces have been preserved; during the land consolidation between 1970 and 1985, paved access roads were built. The name Roseneck refers to hedgerows of wild roses along the rocky outcrops; in the past, the site was known as the “Rosenhecke”.

For the VDP.GROSSE LAGE BERG ROSENECK, Riesling is classified. Georg Breuer describes the wines as being strongly influenced by the soil and suitable for long ageing. The dry Riesling from selected top parcels and casks matured in the documented 2019 vintage for eleven months in old 1,200- and 600-litre casks and then for 36 months on the bottle.
