Location and classification
On the heath, there is a registered vineyard site in the district of Wolf, in Traben-Trarbach on the Moselle. It is classified as a single vineyard site within the larger vineyard site Schwarzlay in the Bernkastel area. The official wine-growing site code is 410930.
Area and parcel
In the official vineyard register for 2024, less than one hectare of planted vineyard area is recorded for Auf der Heide. A documented parcel is located in the south-western, comparatively higher-lying part of the vineyard and has a warmer aspect than the rest of the area of the Goldgrube.
Soil and vegetation pattern
The documented parcel is characterised by fine grey slate with some greywacke. Despite its warmer aspect, it is cooler than the warmest part of the Goldgrube; the start of vegetation there usually occurs about a week later. The parcel is planted with old, ungrafted vines.
Wine from the parcel
For a parcel bottling by Vollenweider, Riesling is documented. The sweet Riesling Kabinett “Wolfer Goldgrube Kabinett Auf Der Heide” has an alcohol content of 8.5 per cent and is matured in a single 500-litre barrel. The separate bottling from the parcel was first released with the 2022 vintage.
