Location and Landscape

Steinfeld is a wine-growing municipality in the southern Pfalz near the French border. The settlement lies between meadows, woodland and vineyards.

Herrenwingert Vineyard Site

The single-vineyard Herrenwingert is assigned to the town and the Steinfeld cadastral area. In the vineyard directory for the 2024 vintage, 5.6 hectares of planted vineyard area are listed there; the site belongs to the Großlage Guttenberg.

History

In the area of Steinfeld there are indications of Roman settlement, including at least five villae rusticae on the south slope of the Riedel. Traces of Frankish settlement are dated to about 700 to 730 AD. Steinfeld was first mentioned in documents on 4 April 1250 in a record concerning parish dues in connection with the Benedictine monastery of Weißenburg.
