Winegrowing in Roschbach

Vineyards and grape harvest shape the agricultural landscape of the winegrowing village. According to a local wine producer, the soils of the vineyards consist of loess and clay; they hold on to warmth from the sun and rainfall for comparatively long. In the vineyard, traditional vine care and modern winegrowing techniques are combined. After the harvest, the soil is ploughed once before winter.

The Rosenkränzel vineyard

The Rosenkränzel vineyard is listed in the official register of winegrowing sites as an approved single vineyard for wines from the Pfalz growing region. For 2024, the register shows a planted vine area of 124.9 hectares. Documented wines from Rosenkränzel include Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Grauburgunder and Cabernet Dorsa. The Gelber Muskateller from the same vintage had 11.5% by volume of alcohol, 19.4 grams of residual sugar and 6.4 grams of acidity per litre.

For the period of French rule and the early 19th century, the local chronicle names the Wingertsmann, that is, the vineyard worker, as one of the widespread occupations.
