Riveris is a municipality near Trier on the slopes of the valley formed by the Riveris stream. It lies in the Ruwer area of the Mosel
Geology and history
In the hills around Riveris, slate was formerly extracted from underground pits. Historically, the municipality was shaped by agriculture, in particular livestock rearing and fruit growing. Vineyards once belonged to the village scene, but the municipality describes them as historical rather than as current landscape features.
Water and viticulture
The drinking water valley reservoir built in the Riveris valley has been supplying Trier with water since 1958. The Ruwer section of the Mosel wine-growing region between Riveris and Trier is characterised by favourable conditions of warmth and precipitation in steep-sided vineyards and valleys. Linked to Riveris is the single vineyard Heiligenhäuschen in the Ruwer area.
