Rivenich

Location and municipality

Rivenich is a municipality in the Verbandsgemeinde of Wittlich-Land in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The place is located in the Vordere Eifel in the Salm valley, a side valley of the Moselle. The municipal area covers about 7.77 to 7.78 square kilometres and lies around 138 to 140 metres above sea level.

Wine-growing on the Moselle

Rivenich belongs to the Mosel wine-growing region and is listed as an approved designation for Mosel country wines. Vineyard names associated with the municipal area are Brauneberg, Geisberg, Niederberg and Rosenberg.

Wine character and production

The vineyards around Rivenich show, according to information from a local wine producer, slate soils. Typical Mosel grape varieties are grown; these produce variety-typical still wines and sparkling wines. The Wey winery produces its wines without animal products and 100 per cent vegan.

History

Rivenich was first mentioned in a document in the year 748 under the name Riveniacus.
