Location and landscape
Morscheid lies on a slate ridge between the valleys of the Ruwer and the Riveris. The high plateau falls away on three sides and rounds off in the north near the confluence of the Ruwer and the Riveris.
Slate and viticulture
In the slate highland of the municipality, tunnels and pits bear witness to the former extraction of slate and ore. In the north-east of the Morscheid cadastral area there is a steep slope planted with vines. The officially recorded single-vineyard site for the Moselle Heiligenhäuschen belongs to the cadastral areas of Morscheid, Riveris and Waldrach.
History
Morscheid is first documented as Murcid in connection with property of Archbishop Poppo for the period from 1016 to 1047. The dedication of the local parish is considered an indication of origins during the Carolingian settlement clearance.
